Barolo’s cousin from the same grape, Barbaresco is an important variation of Nebbiolo in its own right. It is one of Italy’s most beloved takes on the grape. On the nose, it offers aromas of roses and violets, with flavor notes of cherry, truffles, fennel, and licorice.
Barbaresco demonstrates a vast aging potential, with many expected to age 5 to 10 years before they are consumed. When the wine has been aged for some time, it can develop smokey notes and more earthy flavors.
Barbaresco will overwhelm light dishes such as fish and chicken. Enjoy this wine with rich, meat-focused dishes such as braised short ribs, beef roasts, lamb, or veal chops.
