Cortese is a white Italian wine grape variety most famously associated with the crisp, lime-scented wines of Gavi. It is predominantly grown across Piedmont in northwestern Italy, and has a long history in Italian viticulture, with written documentation naming the grape among the plantings in a Piedmontese vineyard as early as 1659. Wines made from Cortese have long been favored by locals in nearby Genoa as a wine pairing with seafood caught off the Ligurian coast. This Cortese by our favorite co-op is light and zesty, with pear, apple, and lemon flavors. Extremely drinkable, it is a simple, balanced white that is ideal for casual occasions. Good value at this price point.
